Three Pies That Made Me Bat An Eye

Recently I have had quite a few requests to make pie. Thanksgiving behind us (in Canada) but Christmas still ahead I thought I'd share three of the best crowd pleasers, both because you don't see them as often, and because they are so yummy. They also please me a little more than the average pie, because they are a bit easier on the hips, and not too difficult to prepare to promise perfect results. Most of the people I know who don't bake are daunted by the degree of skill needed. Well, from my experience,  you really only need the good recipes and the right ingredients, plus a extra little love. So here you go, and happy baking!

Oh, and you will love me for my Never Fail Pie Crust. ;)

1. Spiced Sweet Potato Pie

                                  Tired Of Pumpkin?

Why not opt for a new holiday dessert this year? Maybe you are worried that the family will miss that tradition they have become so accustomed to?
I understand all too well. Families do get hooked on certain feast favorites, and I mean, who can blame them when we create such incredible food?
Last year I spiced up the standard at Christmas. Everyone was looking forward to my pumpkin pie, but I baked this one up anyway, and it was similar enough to appease the same comfort zone, but different enough to warrant it a new favorite. Now, I probably have to make both this year, but that's okay by me- I get to keep the leftovers, if there are any!

2.Easy Key Lime- Perfect Every Time

The Way To My Man's Heart

Whenever I make this pie it is gone in 2 days with no company necessary to help. My husband LOVES key lime pies in the first place, but mine? He says it's the best! (For the record that means it is better than his moms.) What I love about this pie is that it is so secretly sinful. How? First, because after the crust is done, it is bake free. Which means I can make it, and when  my husband comes home he can't smell it. Then it hides in the fridge until after dinner, and voila! As if the savory meal I prepared wasn't evidence enough? I am Wonder Woman holding his fave treat in my miracle working hands! The other secret, is that it is ridiculously easy to make. No baking, no temperamental dough, no rising, no icing, and you don't even have to zest a lime. If you think you're sold now? Wait til you taste it.

3. Green Tomato Pie? To Die For!

Oh So Savory!

Green Tomato Pie has become a very popular treat in my family. We eat it as a snack, as an appetizer, as lunch, and after dinner. I must admit that until about a year ago, I had never heard of a tomato pie, except for pizza that is. The recipe I use I found in an old Amish recipe book that my mom bought roadside as we were traveling through Amish country Pennsylvania. My mom loved to buy baking cookbooks, imagining that she would one day try to bake some of the recipes, but never did. She is quite the cook, but not so much a baker, where as I love to bake. I even worked my first job in a country bakery for six years when I was younger. Anyway, she handed down these Amish recipes to me about a year ago, and I love to bake, so I have been trying some out. The recipes are simple, but delicious as is this one. Just use quality fresh ingredients, and away we go!
